I am a UK choral director. I now live in Abruzzo with my family, although I ryanair it frequently back to the UK to continue my choir work there.

I have long had the idea of forming a mixed-voice community choir in Abruzzo, and I would be very happy to hear from anyone who might be interested in joining. It would be non-auditioned, and keenness rather than experience is the main prerequisite. For many reasons – artistic, social and cultural my vision is of a mixed nationality choir, not an exclusive ex-pat organisation. My career in the UK has ranged from conducting concerts in all the major London concert halls to workshops in schools, currently I’m working for the National Youth Choir of Scotland and shortly I’m to visit USA as a guest conductor for the Peabody Children’s Chorus. I have a particular interest in working with young singers (until last year I was Music Director of Cantate), and hopefully an Abruzzo choir might eventually provide opportunities for youngsters. I have recently enjoyed coaching some Italian choirs as well.

My initial plan is to collect the names of anyone – all nationalities – who might be interested to come together for a FunSing , maybe a Sunday afternoon in early October, when we can decide where we go from there. Any standard would be welcome: experience and ability to read music are not necessary: membership would be free. And if you can persuade Italian friends to come too, so much the better. I want to leave any decision about venue until I get get the feel of the initial response. We live in the Castiglione MR – Bisenti – Val Fino area, but it may turn out that there is a choral cluster elsewhere! If anyone can offer a large room or small hall as a venue, that could be very useful.

If there is sufficient interest, and the noises at the FunSing show potential, then we could work towards a Concerto di Natale for around New Year time: maybe a programme of Christmas music from Italy, Britain and other countries, with a sprinkling of spirituals and African folksongs (both always very popular in Italy).

If you’re interested – ladies AND men – please respond by pm giving a contact number and email address adding any information about yourself which may be relevant.

Cordiali saluti,
Michael Kibblewhite

Each year Citta Sant Angelo hosts a number of very good festivals, the 'Festa in Corso' held last week was no exception, especially if you like music, from rock to classical and everything in between. On Sunday there were 10 bands playing dotted around the beautiful town of Citta Sant Angelo, the atmosphere was excellent.

Would recommend an insert into your 2011 diary, for a must visit festa next year.
