The current mini budget has brought in a new tax rate for rentals. The actual rate is supposed to be announced today but will be between 20 and 25%. Supposedly higher fines for renting in the nero. Changes come in jan 1st 2011.

Coming 2014 a new set of taxes. Seems to only cover 2nd homes. From what little info I've seen the tax only covers sales etc of these properties.

Just struck me from some of the discussions about sterling falling/rising that there appears to be a eurosceptic bent to some of the commentary.

I was wondering in general whether people are pro or anti EU. So I thought I'd do up this poll. Haven't doen one before so hopefully this turns out ok.

Sterling fell on Friday, hitting its lowest level against the euro since June 1 as rising European money market rates and higher equities stoked demand for the single currency.

Better-than-expected U.S. corporate earnings this week, including from Bank of America (BAC.N) and General Electric (GE.N) on Friday, have also helped to stoke demand for higher-risk currencies, which has benefitted the euro. [ID:nN16144753]

The pound's losses versus the euro helped to pull it away from a 2 1/2-month high hit against the dollar the previous day, but losses were limited after the UK currency closed decisively above a key technical level on Thursday.

Analysts said sterling's slide versus the dollar, which clips a three-day winning streak, suggested that investors are taking a breather from the pound's dramatic rise since mid-May as speculators unwind extreme short positions in the currency.

EUROS rising again against the usa dollar

Forgive me if this is already listed somewhere else - I did look but I'm not known for my patience...

We think it's time to start talking to a commercialista as we firm up our business plan a bit more. I do speak Italian but believe that this is one area where I need to understand 100% of the conversation rather than 70% and hope that the missing bits are either irrelevant or will become clear within context

Preferably within an hour of Sulmona but will travel for the right fit.

Grazie in anticipo.

Tartuffa.

Escape from the Police

Driving back from the coast on Saturday, we were pulled over by the police. Not the first time this has happened, but in the past they've always totally lost interest after finding out we're Brits.
However, this time, OH offered up the previously magic words 'Sono Inglese', and other than a pained expression, no effect.
I then volunteered that we were driving a hire car, but the policeman just requested 'documenti'.
I handed over the car's documents, but OH's driving licence was clearly required. Have you got it with you, I asked. No he replied.
I then rooted in my bag and found my own old style licence.
The policeman spotted it and enthused that this was the very thing he wanted, an international driving licence. I never tried to fool him into thinking it was OH's licence, really I didn't. He went off clutching the car's document and my licence.
He and his colleague stood there considering the documents for a long time. I saw them go through the pages of my licence a number of times, pausing over the fixed penalties quite a few times too.
After a good ten minutes, he returned, having convinced himself all was well, apparently, gave me back the documents and we were on our way
